Century Medicines opened in March of 1993. Our Dad and Mom, Rollin K. and Pina L. Pyles, sent all four of their children – Jerry, Harry, Mark, and myself – to Samford University McWhorter School of Pharmacy in Birmingham, Alabama.

My siblings and I wanted to open a pharmacy in our hometown of Columbia in honor of our parents. We opened Century Medicines in the location where it remains today. This location on Jamestown Street also just happened to be right next door to our Dad’s business at the time, Jeffries Hardware!

So, in 1993, Jerry, Harry, and I became co-owners of Century Medicines. Since opening our pharmacy, I have been the manager and Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC). Now, we have another pharmacist, my daughter Abby B. Hatcher, who joined us two years ago. I am very proud of Abby and her strong work ethic.

Century Medicines’ goals have always been to be a unique pharmacy that provides professional service with a personal touch. We want to have a hometown feel and a welcoming spirit. We call our patients by their first name when they come to visit us. We have been doing this for 28 years!

In addition to myself and my daughter Abby, we have fully trained licensed pharmacy technicians who work hard to achieve our goals and take care of our customers. I am proud of our dedicated and efficient staff.

Another goal of Century Medicines is to take care of our customers thoroughly but quickly. If a patient has one to two prescriptions to fill, we usually have them taken care of in five to seven minutes! We think FAST and FRIENDLY SERVICE is important and believe providing it has been just one reason why we have been successful over the years. Century Medicines wants to be your PROFESSIONAL and CARING PHARMACY with fast and friendly service – and – we will always call you by your first name!
